A Brief history of "Contrology"
widely known as Pilates.

At its simplest form, Contrology is the complete and total coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Through this elegent form of exercise, one's first goal is to acquire and maintain complete control of ones own body.

Once we have control of our body, we use the repetition of the exercises to gradually and progressively acquire the rhythm and coordination that is necessary to exercise control on the deeper subconscious activities. This deep control is observed widely in domestic pets, as well as wild animals, without exception.

Pilates develops the body in a uniform manner, correcting bad postures, restoring physical vitality, invigorating the mind, elevating the spirit, and bringing fitness not just to your muscles, but to your mind and soul as well.

One major result of Contrology training is gaining master of mind over the matter that is your physical body. Many beginners are astonished to discover how few(if any) of the Pilates exercises the are able to execute flawlessly. Even trained athletes are astonished by how much they don't know.

Previous failure to exercise regularly, and more importantly properly, combined with a poor method of training, has helped to hinder their abilities. This also provides evidence that the functioning of the brain controlling those movements has deterioriated or become atrophied. Pilates is the attempt to once again tone those areas of the body and brain.
